Phil Robertson Laid to Rest in Private Family Funeral: Sons Reflect on His Legacy
Less than a week after his passing, Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson was laid to rest during a private family ceremony held on Thursday, May 29. The 79-year-old was celebrated by his family and close friends in an emotional gathering that honored his deep faith, enduring influence, and cherished role as a husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
A Quiet Goodbye to a Family Icon
Phil passed away on Sunday, May 25, after battling Alzheimer’s disease and a blood disorder. The family announced his death through a joint statement on social media, and tributes soon followed from loved ones, including his brother Si Robertson, who shared his grief in two deeply emotional podcast episodes.
“I knew before the phone call came,” Si said. “I felt totally alone… I don’t feel right. Then Phillip called and said, ‘Phil passed away at 5 o’clock.’ I said, ‘Well, I already knew.’”
The Funeral: A Celebration of Faith and Family
Although the funeral was private, several family members later spoke publicly about the service during an episode of their Unashamed podcast. Al and Jase Robertson, joined by Jase’s son Reed and family friend Zach Dasher, shared intimate details of the emotional farewell.
One of Miss Kay’s heartfelt requests was that each of their sons speak at the funeral. Al, Jase, and Willie gave individual eulogies, while the youngest sibling, Jep, spoke alongside their sister Phyllis. The gathering included about 400 attendees, a mix of close friends, family, and loved ones.
The service itself was not just a time of mourning, but one of worship and gratitude, reflecting Phil’s unwavering Christian faith and the legacy he left behind.
Final Moments and Family Reflections
The podcast episode also gave listeners an emotional glimpse into Phil’s final days. Jase shared a moment when his daughter Mia brought a rare spark of awareness from Phil in his last hours.
“My daughter started singing… she had tears flowing down her face. [Phil] hadn’t responded all day. Then he reached out and held her hand.”
Jase also recounted his last conversation with his father:
“I didn’t even think he was aware… I told him, ‘It’s okay. We’re good.’ Then I said, ‘You’re gonna meet Jesus.’ And he just came to. He grabbed my hand and said, ‘Let’s go… take me, take me.’”
Al Robertson brought two powerful items to the podcast recording: Phil’s Bible, which had rested open on his casket to Matthew 28, and the large photo of Phil that was displayed during the funeral.
How Is Miss Kay Holding Up?
Phil’s wife of 60 years, Miss Kay, was by his side when he took his final breath, alongside their grandson Reed and daughter Phyllis. Though heartbroken, Kay is receiving loving support from her family.
Jay Stone, Phil’s nephew, shared on the Duck Call Room podcast:
“Miss Kay is staying with us now. She’s doing good. She’s surrounded by family. There’s people in and out. She’s eating good.”
The Robertson family continues to lean on their faith, their memories, and each other during this season of loss.
Phil Robertson’s life may have ended, but his legacy of love, faith, and family continues to inspire millions.
