Duck Dynasty’s Miss Kay Robertson, Son Alan Give Update on Her Health After Phil Robertson’s Death

Duck Dynasty matriarch Miss Kay Robertson is giving an update on her health following a recent hospitalization and the death of her husband, Phil Robertson.

Kay, 77, made a rare appearance on the Robertson family’s “Duck Call Room” podcast on Wednesday, July 9, joining her son Alan and brother-in-law Si for the duration of the episode.

“You live, Mom!” Alan, 60, quipped at the start of the episode, noting there have been countless online rumors that she had died. “Thank goodness! I’m tired of being dead,” Kay retorted sarcastically.

Alan then talked about how his brother Willie, the CEO of the family’s Duck Commander duck call business, has been “trying to pull Mom out of retirement” after she appeared on a couple of episodes of Duck Dynasty: The Revival. “She has told Willie in no uncertain terms she is retired. She’s not dead, but she is retired.” Proving that she’s lost none of her signature humor, Kay responded, “Yeah, but he obviously can’t hear!”

Alan, Phil and Kay’s eldest son, noted how his mom has moved in with his daughter Anna and her husband, Jay, since Phil’s death. Their property is on the same compound as Alan’s home with wife Lisa.

“Mom has been doing her physical therapy, she’s lost some weight, she’s really been great. I’ve been super proud,” Alan said, noting that as well as dealing with grief, Kay has also had some health issues of her own. In February, she was hospitalized after having a fall.

As it turns out, Kay was something of a celebrity at her hospital.

She joked, “You try to sign autographs in the hospital. It’s really fun! … The staff, the people walking down the halls [would say], ‘That looks just like Miss Kay!’ ‘Yeah, that’s her, let’s go and see her.’ Really, is there a sign that says ‘Come on in?’”

Inside Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson’s Final Days and What His Loved Ones Said About His Alzheimer’s

Alan said that his mom has a “a little bit of dementia,” but not as severe as Phil’s Alzheimer’s before his death in May. Alan’s brother Willie told Us Weekly at the time, “Mom has shown the same type of symptoms of Alzheimer’s or dementia. It’s just part of life — and mom has her good days.”

Back in February, Alan and Willie’s brother Jase revealed on the “Duck Call Room” podcast that Kay was hospitalized after suffering a fall and had to undergo surgery, but was doing “pretty well.” He also noted she had some mobility issues due to a broken foot.

“Kay had another fall, which, she falls a lot. And it was a substantial injury,” Jase said. “The people around them 24/7, ’cause obviously we can’t be around them at all times, sent me a very graphic picture when she cut her leg. It was a horror show; it was severe. I was fixing to get up on stage, and I see this picture of my mom, I was like, ‘Oh, man.’ I was like, ‘Get her to the hospital. I gotta speak.’”
